Because She Was Called is a first-century story to stimulate meaningful and thoughtful discussion about the role of women, equality, gender, identity and belonging. The discussion questions included in the book ask questions about the role of women in the first-century church, and how that contrasts with the traditonal church teachings limiting women's freedoms. The novel also draws on imagery of God as both male and female, and posits that theSpirit lead the early church to baptized LGBTQ+ people as equals.

My Story
As a mother of three daughters, I wanted to show how the Bible empowers women to speak and act boldly. I write historical fiction set in biblical times to shine the light on how Jesus engaged women as disciples and patrons, and equipped and empowered women as evangelists and apostles. As a financial advisor, knowing that Jesus engaged women as financial advisors and patrons, I felt betrayed as a Christian when I saw the church speaking against women advisors and leaders. My From Broken to Bold fiction trilogy includes Forgotten Followers, Because She Was Called, and Finding Her Voice. I live with my husband and little dog in Canada, enjoying hiking, nature, tennis, pickleball, and music.
